Another Reason to Root for the Pack

In the past 15 elections, if the Washington Redskins have lost their last home game before the general election, the incumbent presidential candidates lost re-election. When they have won, the incumbent won re-election.

This year the deciding game takes place on Sunday, October 31 vs. America's team: The Green Bay Packers.

Further proving that my home state, Wisconsin, is unfortunately, a very important swing state. Go Pack!

political dork alert

This is one of those websites that I check almost everyday. I figure it's not unlike the NASDAQ for some and ESPN for others. Whatever floats your boat I guess. And watching an electoral vote predictor map that changes daily unforunately floats mine: http://www.electoral-vote.com. Today Kerry's up 280 to Bush's 239 and Wisconsin's back to leaning Democratic!

Create your own PAC

There is so much cool innovation surrounding this year's election. ActBlue has a website that let's you customize your own candidate giving page. So you can decide which candidates you think need the most financial help, and then send out the site to your friends asking them to give a little bit to each candidate if they can. My goal is to raise $1000 (only about $30 from 35 friends). Check out my page: http://actblue.com/list/schiavonipicks and tell me what you think of my choices.

Florida

If you haven't gotten the chance to see how the new Florida election ballot is going to work you can check it out on this new interactive website.

Should be exciting to see how they actually end up stealing Florida this time...

Johny Sunshine

Did what he needed to do last night. I don't think the media wanted to give him a hands down win (less exciting) but the reality is that he held his own during the foreign policy discussion and drove it home during the domestic policy discussion. Moreover, Cheney continued to lie even as Edwards called him and the current administration on there lies. See the video put out by the DNC today called Cheney v. Reality. While you're there check out the other recent ads. I think the dem ads have gotten a lot better since the new communications team came on board. Bottom line for me is that Cheney wasn't horrible, he just looked tired and a bit beaten down. Edwards wasn't spectacular but he held up which is all that he needed to do.

Sigh of Relief

I didn't think Kerry blew the roof off the house, but he didn't flail!! (At least after his nerves settled down after the first two questions.) And, for now, the spin is going heavily in his favor. I should have trusted my dad who argued Kerry had no where to go but up. Though I couldn't understand why Kerry was writing with his head down the entire time that Bush spoke, I now see it may have been to keep himself from those unfortunate cringings and furrowings of Gore in 2000 and now Bush in 2004!

Plus, this was the hard debate! The American people as a whole don't understand foreign policy and have been scared stiff by terrorists and WMDs. Thankfully, the next two debates focus on domestic issues. And everyone understands that the economy is in shambles, 40 million people do not have health insurance and the president has taken record surpluses and turned them into record deficits. All Kerry has to do is come up with a semi-plausible way to pay for the recovery he proposes and we should be sitting pretty. Until then, let's just hold our breath and wait out whatever stunt Rove has in the works to drive the media away from talking about this debate and our victorious Kerry. It is time to pull out Osama?
